QUICK GUIDANCE ABOUT GATE EXAM
The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering also known as GATE is an all India level examination jointly conducted by the Indian Institute of Science (IIS) and the 7 Indian Institute of Technology (IIT). The basic qualification or eligibility in order to participate in the GATE examination is that you should complete/ pursuing any of the degrees given below:
B.Tech/B.E, B.Arch., B.Pharm, B.S, M.Sc., M.A, M.C.A, M.Tech/M.E.
Before getting into the further details about GATE, there is a modification in this year’s GATE examination. A new paper called Ecology and Evolution is introduced in this year’s examination paper. 22 different papers will be provided to the candidates according to the each student’s stream. The examination pattern is basically an online computer based test. The question pattern of GATE consist of numerical answer type and multiple choice type questions. So choose your questions wisely. GATE 2014 EXAM PATTERN
The examination consists of a single question paper with duration of 3 hour. The question paper consists of 65 questions carrying overall marks of 100. Since the answering pattern of GATE exam is objective type obviously there will be negative marks for the wrong answers. For each wrong answers in 1 mark multiple choice questions, 1/3 marks will be reduced. Similarly for each wrong answers in 2 mark multiple choice questions, 2/3 marks will be reduced. There are no negative marks for numerical answer type questions.
General aptitude section is compulsory for all GATE exam papers. Other than that an XE paper which is engineering science paper, others have compulsory engineering mathematics section with general aptitude. XL paper (Life science) has compulsory section of chemistry and general aptitude.
SCHEDULE AND ADMIT CARD
As per the notification from the GATE exam board the examination dates are scheduled on 2nd, 15th, 16th of February and 1st and 2nd of March.
Forenoon exams: 9.00 am to 12.00 pm
Afternoon exams: 2.00 pm to 5.00 pm.

Printout of admit card should be brought along with an original id proof like aadhar card, voters id, driving license etc. at the time of the examination.
GATE 2014 Results
